| While Nature has created well over 25,000 different orchids, man made hybrids exceed 100,000. Among the recent developments are a flurry of intergeneric hybrids (meaning hybrids resulting from crossing orchids from different families). These are known as Odontocidiums, Colmanaras, Brassidiums. A few examples are illustrated here: Odontocidium Tiger Trident 'Golden Gate'; Miltassia Amazon 'Everglade's Queen'; Colmanara Wildcat 'Carmela'; Brassia Edva Loo X longissima; Odontobrassia Kenneth Bivens 'Santa Barbara' ; and Brassidium Longlen 'Bill Switzer'. In good conditions flowers on most of these stay fresh for 6 weeks or more. Properly grown plants are easy to rebloom when grown on a bright west or slightly shaded south windowsill. | |||||||||||
